This is the oil pastel assignment..i cant tell if the image is blurry or not but i need help!! its from a picture of a lake and trees..i know were not suppossed to worry about small details but it just seems unfinished and i dont know what else to do.
Well it looks like Van Gogh's? so I think your fine.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
If it feels unfinished, it probably is. I think it is a great start though. It does look similar to a Van Gogh, or maybe a Monet, but your instinct is right in thinking it needs more detail. I think if you use some fixative spray on it to stabilize the material then you can do more work on top of it to bring out the depth of it. It looks flat to me right now. Put several layers of fixative spray on it, letting it dry in between. When it feels kind of like there's a "crust" on top, then you can add to it without as much smearing happening. I think you need to add some ripple lines to the water. Use some deeper greens and blues, even some deep purples would work. Then add the highlights to make it look like the water is moving and sparkling. The highlights should be very light, but not necessarily white. Put the marks on the drawing and then let them alone. Do not try to blend them in. They should "stand on top" of what is already there. Look at some examples of paintings of Water Lilies by Monet (they are also called Nimphea) to get the idea of how he applies his color to the canvas. The top of your image could be enhanced by adding short strokes in various shades of greens and brown and yellow greens to give the illusions of lots of leaves and maybe some trunks, or branches. Again, do not blend the strokes but allow them to be a powerful contrast to the soft blended look that is already there. What you have now is the "base". What you will be adding is embellishment. Van Gogh would be a great reference for the tree details. Good luck and let me see how it evolves.
