Now Hear This!

My Mom's ear! I don't know if I'm done yet?
Any suggestions?
The Ear is a hard body part to draw!!!!!

Jackie and I went to the Art Museum today.  I think we were expecting something totally different.  We wanted to see more modern art? We got bored with the portraits. But we both ended up finding something  interesting to draw!

  1. Glad to hear you went to the museum! I think you just may not have found all of the more modern art though. The Cin'ti Art Museum is not really the most progressive as far as modern art goes. You need to visit the CAC - Contemporary Art Center, downtown, for that.
But good for you for at least going!!!!!
NOW ABOUT YOUR WORK: This ear is a nice drawing but kind of flat. If I had to say how much of a range of values you have captured in this drawing, I would have to say not a lot! You have a few darker places but overall it is pretty light. You need to be able to show more FORM and that happens by using more different values. Your lines overall are all the same. Keep in mind that you can vary the pressure you use to make the mark on the paper. That changes the darkness and the thinckness of the line. It also makes a statement about mood and energy.
Both the structure of the ear and the close cropping in the composition are very well done. Now you need to work on how it appears. A greater range of values, textures (the hair should look different in texture than the skin of the ear), and line qualities will make it more engaging. It will hold the viewer's interest for a longer period of time. That's your goal - to make people want to explore your work!
