These are my first two attempts at the self portrait, neither of which turned out exactly how I wanted. The original sketch looked a lot more like me but I think there is sort of a resemblance in the second painting.
I like the cropping in the first and the emotional quality in the eyes of the second. Try a third. Don't necessarily do a straight-on view. And maybe mess with proportions too. Have fun and be creative. Don't worry so much about the rules... they are just guidelines. You have to know what you are trying to say with the piece first then you can make that happen using the "tricks" you know from what we have been doing all along. It's more about owning the piece ... not about trying to please me. Try thinking of it from that perspective ok?
This will be "Art 4 Central" for you. I will expect to hear from each of you on a regular basis. Assignments will be posted here. Updates of interest will be popping up when necessary. We can talk about art questions or problems. (Really we can talk about anything; I want some fun vacation reports as well.) You will be asked to post your work to share with the group. I want both imagesand text. You will be posting feedback for your peers' work too. There will be grades given in the fall for your level of participation. This is a great way to get a jump on your portfolio for next year. So be sure to check in on a regular basis!
